About
Ladakh is a high-altitude desert: barely 100mm of rain a year, and villages depend on glacier melt arriving weeks after they need it most, in April and May. An Ice Stupa is a tall, self-shading cone of water frozen through winter — no pumps, no power, no fuel, just a pipe, elevation, and sub-zero night air.
Cold-desert villages across Ladakh have been building them since 2014, storing winter water upright so it survives long enough to reach the spring planting window.
